Too many mLs?
by: Anonymous

I understand how you set up and solved the problem but although 174mL would equal a concentration of 50mg/ml, I think the max that would fit in a 10g vial is 100mL. Would it work if you added 43.5mL (87mL/2) of diluent instead?

UNDERSTANDING THE QUESTION IS THE KEY
by: CHERRY

10g vial is not relevant

the question simply means how much should be added to get a conc of 50mg/ml.
let the known vol and conc be C1V1
and the unknown vol and conc C2V2
C1V1=C2V2
100MG/ML*87=V2*50MG/ML
V2=174ml
remember how much do you to add is the question
174ml-87ml=87ml
ans=87ml

hint;it became 100mg/ml when 87ml was added another 87mls will make 50mg/ml
