Question about pharm techs working in retail pharmacies

by Dave
(Hollywood, FL)

I would like to know exactly how much do pharm techs make working in Walgreens. I've heard that techs that work for Wal-Mart or Publix get paid way more than those who work for CVS and Walgreens. I understand that out all of these retail giants that institutional pharmacies pay techs more than these retail pharmacies do.

I just got certified and now i'm in the middle of registration and I would like to start out in a retail pharmacy first, so I just want to know what would be the best retail pharmacy chain to try and get a job at as far as salary being the issue here. Can someone please tell me ?

Drug store / Pharmacy decision

I think any kind of drugstore / pharmacy is good. You need to get your foot in the door somewhere; so if it's also in a hospital part time, night shift...whatever to get you to the interview and in the door. Anywhere to start your future. in these times of economy uncertainty, take what you can get!!

I'm a pharm tech too. I wouldn't even bother with CVS. I would find a pharmacy/drug store, work there for a year unless you love the job. Then, start applying to hospitals. That's what most pharm techs (myself included) have a goal to do.

CVS, Walgreens, etc.

It may vary state to state. But in California, for retail stores, Walgreens pay the most but I heard it's a hard job there and they keep you busy.

Once you work for a retail store for a year, than apply for the hospital where they pay you more. It's very rare you can get a job in the hospital without any retail experience.
